I frantically embroidered this dress the night before I went to JACT Latin summer school to study Latin formally for the first time. I got the idea after seeing this dress in a charity shop and instantly thinking it was exactly the same color as the Latin Loebs. The skills needed for this were actually pretty basic; I practiced drawing the Loeb logo a few times to get the right size before drawing in embroidery pen (washable ink!) on the dress. Having the dress at the school was really lovely; I had been nervous going as I had never properly studied Latin before, and was also studying history at university at the time rather than classics; as silly as it sounds, having something classical that I'd made myself gave me the confidence to say I was a real classicist, despite language proficiency being emphasized so much in the discipline. People really liked it, and one of the friends I made at the school has now embroidered some really cool classical stuff of their own!
